Identify et prioritize interests and needs of private woodlot owners in the Outaouais region
This research project aims to establish the socio-ecological profile of woodlot owners in the Outaouais region in order to better understand their practices, interests, and needs in terms of forest management.
CONTEXT
In a context of global change, forests must adapt to increasing disturbances such as fires, storms, and diseases and this includes private forests. In the Outaouais region, approximately 20% of the forests are private. The sustainable management of these forests depends on the active involvement of private forest owners. However, many owners no longer identify with traditional forest management approaches which are often perceived as complex or focused on timber production. Today, forests are increasingly valued for biodiversity conservation, carbon sequestration, and recreational uses (e.g., hiking, hunting) and private owners are changing.
For agencies, it is unclear how to respond to the varied interests of owners and encourage them to enhance the value of their woodlots. New tools can help.
OBJECTIVE
To participate in the study, you must meet the following criteria:
Own a woodlot of 4 hectares (10 acres) or more in the Outaouais region;
Be at least 18 years of age;
Be able to communicate in French or English;
Be able to read and understand the information provided to freely consent to participate in the study.
INTERESTED?
Interested owners are invited to complete an online questionnaire that takes approximately 45 minutes. This questionnaire will address various aspects of your woodlot use, as well as your interests and needs in forest management.
QUESTIONNAIRE
Before participating, you will be asked to read a consent form carefully. This document will explain in detail the objectives of the research, how to participate, your rights and confidentiality measures. By signing this form, you confirm your agreement to participate, while retaining full freedom to withdraw at any time, without justification or consequence.
The project has received ethical approval from UQO's Certificate of Research Ethics (CER #2026-3518).
